At number 1 is also a Miley Cyrus song called 'Wrecking ball' which is Miley's latest single up to date. This single received an astonishing amount of view with 474,380,247 which has been recorded to be the most amount of views on YoTube this year. The one thing i have realised with this single is that the lyrics are very easy to memories as they are very repetitive making it easy to single along to, i myself am not a massive Miley Cyrus fan yet i know all the words to this single somehow. This shows us how catchy the song is and how it can be appealing to a vast range of audience which is why it has made such a hit. I believe one of the reason for the succession of this single is because of it music video. This is because it will attract a lot of male audiences. Miley's songs are usually more appealing to the female audience but this single has made it so that the male section will also want to listen to this single on youTube which can be seen to be the reason for such high views. The high nudity evident in the video is what the male audience are attracted to in this single because it displays Miley naked swing on a wrecking ball. Young boys will definitely find this appealing and hearing about it would encourage them to watch the video on YouTube for the footages rather that the music itself. Despite some of the controversies on this video being a porn video there is also an emotional message being displayed behind the lyrics which is what creates a connection to the female audience as the single can seen to sad but beautiful at the same time. The single was about the tragedy of her previous relationship, how she had been played and miss treated. This emotional breakdown is reflected in the video as there a glimpse of Miley crying in the video, this displays a personal attribute as it is about her real life making it more than just Miley swinging on a wrecking ball naked. This beautiful side to the video has also proven to be effective because it has attracted alot of people.
At number 2 is Miley Cyrus with 'We cant stop'. This single was shock to many views when it first came out as it presented Miley in a different way, mostly in her image. She cut her hair short, got a number of tattoos and makes refers in the lyrics to the street drug 'molly'. All of these elements are not what a lot of her original fan loved as they were young girls, but after her new image parents wouldn't encourage their young daughters to watch or listen to Miley because of her new wild, sexual and nude image. All this attention and controversy about her knew image as an artist has worked in a positive way for her as it has made a larger population of people aware of her due to the media attention. It has also given her new fans such as older teenagers and young adults who are exposed to all of the parting and other social conventions. This music video displays idea of a crazy and partying lifestyle which is evident in the lyrics and portrayed in the video, this reflects Goodwin's theory on music videos having a link to its lyrics. This section of people find this new Miley appealing because they can relate which is why the views for this music video is so big due to all the attention. Beside all the changes to her image and additional fans she still has an amazing voice and is well known for producing good music. This reputation has still be maintained as this song consists of a good instrumental and will be played in many clubs and parties because people can dance to it.
At number 3 of the most viewed music video on YouTube is Rihanna Featuring Mikky Ekko- Stay with 231,42,295 views. Rihanna has done is again with this number 1 single on the UK chart show an has said to be one of Rihanna's best single in her album 'unapologetic'. This single received such a positive reception because it displays a more sympathetic side to Rihanna. The use of close ups have worked really well because of the concept of the video being sad, soft and mellow. The close ups also emphasises her negative emotion state, there is even a close up which shows her slows bursting into tears. This automatically creates a connection between the views and the video as they can also feel Rihanna's emotional distress and feel some level of sympathy. The levels itself can be seen to be depressing and sad which corresponds to the video as it is also depressing and sad. This confirms Andrew Goodwin's theory on how pop video are presented. The element which I think worked well and is the reason for the succession of the song is the music video to the single and the emotion connections it brings.
At number 4 is Naughty Boy Featuring Sam Smith- La La La with 228,783,058 views. This is single is available to be purchase on iTunes in the artist latest album called 'Hotel Cabana'. This single has been such a hit because the type of music is very appealing to the modern day's taste on music, especially the young audience as it is often played at clubs, bars and parties. The song is very vibrant and has a good tone to it which makes people want to get up and dance along. The music video to this song is also very good as it tells a story of young boy accompanied by two others on a journey in order to find a cave. The lyrics in the song goes with the video as the lyrics are telling us about blocking out supressing people, the video reflects this as it displays the young boy and an old man covering their ears when they were being shouted at and running away from the problem. This supports Andrew Goodwin's theory on pop videos. I believe the reason that this song has been so popular amongst people is because it has a vibrant tone to it and it makes people want to dance.
At number 5 is the UK band One Direction with 'Kiss you'. This single received 194,703,977 views on YouTube and increasing. The single is one of many hits the boy band One Direction have successful released as they the have a number of other successful singles such as 'Story of my life' and 'What make you beautiful'. One Direction are very popular girls and have a massive fan base with about 90% being female. Girls love there voice and find them attractive which us why they have been such a success on YouTube as many girls would want to see them in their music videos. The lyrics correspond to well as it is appealing to females because it is all about a girl why they are in love with. Furthermore the single is very bubbly and the video is funny to watch which adds as other reasons for why people would want to watch this music video. The bands good voice and image is what I think made this music video such a success on YouTube because these are elements the female audience love.
