Analyse of top 3 favioute videos in terms of mise-en-scene, cinematography and editing

One of my favourite music video in terms of mise-en-scene, cinematography and editing is a classic music video by A-Ha called 'take me on'. In terms of creativity this music video is one of the most original video I've seen. Some of the choices of editing I've never seen before and has prove to be very effective because they suit the concept of the video and relate to the lyrics.

The use of editing is exceptional in this music video, I really like the use of the comic forms mixed with reality, it makes the video more interesting to watch every time because I always wonder even up till now how the director managed to merge the comic forms and real life footage's in one shot without any noticeable transition of scenes. Because of such editing it makes the video relevant in the modern day because of the creative use of editing which I doubt will ever get old.

The use of cinematography has also been used effectively in this video. Match-On-Match action can be seen near the beginning of the video when the women puts her hand on the comic book followed by a transition shot as she is then all of a sudden in a comic form with the man that took her hand. This transition shot contributes in the reasons to why the video appears so creative and intriguing to watch.

In terms of mise-en-scene this music video is a perfect example of post-modernism because of the elements displayed in the video. Such as one of the location which is in an old fashion restaurant. In addition to this the bands dress sense and hair style also emphasis the concept of post-modernism because it reminds me of Elvis Presley as that is how he use to do his hair.

Another of my favourite music videos in terms of mise-en-scene, cinematography and editing is 'Bad Romance' by Lady Gaga. Am not a big Lady Gaga fan or even a fan of this record but the music video to single really caught my interest in a way weird way. The choice of costumes in this video was excellent as it corresponded with the who theme of weirdness and extraordinary. Furthermore, the costumes used were original and different as I have never seen some of the outfits Gaga was dressed in before. Lady Gaga is well known for her extravagant and original items of clothing with is reflected in this video, I think this made a positive impact to the single because it made viewers to be more interested in what she would be wearing in the music video as she is one of hip hops most creative wardrobe because she always come up with something new and eye catching which I think worded on me.

The choreographed dancing was also a good aspect in this music video as it made it more entertaining to watch rather than scene purely of her just singing. The use of wide shot whilst filming some of the choreographed routines I think worked well because it shows all of the dancers including Gaga dancing at once and it makes the whole scene look more synchronised. This choice of shot also makes them stand out as from the background and any other distraction because it covers the whole screen which draws full attention on the dancers. Near to the end of the video a number of close-up shots of Gaga's face can be seen. This worked really well because it helped emphasis the distressing emotions to the song. This then creates multiple ideas of the song being more than just a fashion show but an emotional, well thought of peace of music with meaning behind the lyrics. The use of pan during the middle of the video was also an effective trait. This is because I feel it worked well in showing off the use of special effects displayed with the diamonds floating around Gaga. In addition to this, it also displays Gaga in that part of the video as an inferior person because she is surrounded by men sitting down watching her. This could suggest implications of a venerable side to Gaga as she has been put in a position of being surround by dominant being. This idea is supported via the lyrics as the song is all about her being "caught in a bad romance" and have been emotionally damaged because of men.

The use of editing can also be highlighted in this music video. One of the most obvious which I liked the most was in the middle of video were she is surrounded by diamonds somehow just floating in air. I personally have never seen something like that before which is why it immediately caught my attention and am sure this is the same with thousands of other views, this makes the video an element of mystery behind how the special effect was pulled off and makes the video stand out more.

Another of my favourite music video is 'Forever' by Chris Brown. As well as the music video being a master peace I also really like the song itself regardless of the video and I think this single will also be an icon classic. In terms of mise-en-scene I think some of the locations used in the video had the video as a whole even better. The choice of an abandoned warehouse I believe to be an interesting choice of location for a choreographed dance routine, this has contributed in making the video different from the typical dancing in a club scene. The choreography and solo routines in the video was nothing less than brilliant which I wasn't too surprised about as Chris Brown is well known for his great performance both live at concerns and in his music videos. This is an effective aspect in the video as it doesn't just show Chris as a great singer and recording artist but also shows off he's other qualities such as his talent for dancing, this shows us that Chris has more to offer in the music industry than just having a voice. This puts him in a more superior position compared to other artists who don't possess such qualities as viewers will have a reason to watch Chris's video's knowing its going to be full of energy and excitement .

The use of editing is evident throughout this music video. The use of special effects with the moving lights brought an exhilarating and magical feeling to the song making it more eye catching and exciting to watch. The pace of the editing is also very good because it has been done steady to the rhythm of the beat which has prove to be effective as it makes the whole music video flow with the lyrics. Furthermore, the use of slow motion at a point in time in the video when the women fell off the roof worked well because it really captured the women's beauty and makes the footage look romantic as Chris slowly comes into contact with the women which will hit a soft spot in the viewers because its looks elegant and beautiful.

The use of cinematography has been used effectively in this music video as the constant rotations of low angle shots, mid-shots, wide shots and close-ups whilst the choreographed routines are taking place makes the scenes more engaging because of the the variation of shots rather than the basic wide shots covering Chris and the background dancers, that would have been very plain and boring. In addition to this the variation of shots worked well because it contributed in showing off Chris talent on the dance floor, e.g. The close up on his feet shows off his rapid foot work. There is also a slow Pan used whilst Chris is surrounded by moving lights whilst singing, this also shows off elements within the video such as his fashionable cloths and the use of special effects as the lights moves around him. This makes the footage's look more magical and also beautiful because there is also a Pan when he is with the hot female adding the sense of romance making video more emotional when watching.
