Non-Copyright Music

Non-Copyright

  • Legal concept that gives the creator of  product exclusive rights
  • No one else can us or reproduce without there permission
  • We have to ask for permission if we wish to use another artist's music video
Non-Copyright is the illegal act of using, selling or licensing a creative work which is produced by somebody else. Copyrights are said to be territorial, which means that they do not extend beyond the territory of a specific state unless that state is a party to an international agreement.

Today, however, this is less relevant since most countries are parties to at least one such agreement. These rights are important as it protects the creators work from being used by someone else who wasn't involved in the original production. in addition to this it prevents the loss of profit for the artist who makes the music video. It is important that the copyright laws are not broken as artists take it seriously and if caught a lump-some of fine may have to be paid by the the offender. The copyright laws make create issues for our group as it has limited us with the music videos we can use as we will only be able to use unsigned artists videos. It will be more realistic for us to ask for permission from an unsigned artist as they would be more than welcome for us to use there music as it would be a publicity act for them as it would be getting there music around and heard by more people, the chances of receive a confirmation from a signed artist to uses his/her music is very low as they wouldn't have the time to reply to us if we were to ask.
